Each Friday night we open our doors to welcome in the youth of this community, some connected to this church and some not. I am always so encouraged to hear their stories, what’s impacting their life and what their response to adversity is.
One recent Friday night we were chatting about what we could pray for and I was so encouraged to hear their responses. I didn’t hear one of them ask for prayer for themselves; it was all prayer for a friend, family member or acquaintance! Our youth community wanted to see God moving in the lives of those they cared about, people they saw hurting and people they hardly knew. How incredible!
I love that this is the heart of a disciple of Jesus: a heart for others first and a heart to see someone else’s life changed in the knowledge that observing the change will in turn transform their life.
In the same way, I would like to ask you all: can you be praying for our youth? Would you commit to praying, with me, for the next generation?
Imagine with me for a moment. Imagine a church filled with young people who are disruptive in wanting to know more about their God. A generation who want to see their schools transformed and their friends come to know Jesus. A group of young people who are unafraid of being counter-cultural and bold enough to share the love of Jesus with those around them.
We, as a church, are fortunate to say we have these young people in our church. The description above is what’s displayed on a Friday night.
When you see our youth attending a Sunday church service, please go out of your way to say hello, to encourage them and let them know they have a church family championing them on.
