Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:6
When our circumstances are uncertain or we areunsure what tomorrow may bring I know for me it’s easy to try and ‘fix or ‘plan’ things myself or to rely on my own strength to work things out. I have learnt in recent years, I’m actually a bit of a control freak. Fancy that. But I have also learnt the greatest financial advisor, career counsellor, psychologist, travel agent or time planner is actually accessible to each of us every day of our lives 24/7. It just requires a little faith…
Faith meaning a complete trust or confidence in someone or something. As they said back in primary school… this is a verb, a doing word. I have learnt that for my faith to be real it’s something I need to live out, not just talk about. Anytime we demonstrate faith we’re relying on something. When you sit in a chair you’re relying on the chair’s manufacturer to produce something that will
hold you up. When you’re on the road you’re relying on every other driver around you…which sometimes can be very challenging!
Sometimes I know it can be easy to question our faith when we are faced with challenges, hurt or loss. We may struggle to see how God will provide all our needs. We may be facing an overwhelmingly difficult trial and seem like there is no hope. Or maybe we may wonder if He will ever fulfill your heart’s desire in a particular area. But when these times arise I am always encouraged by what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:8: “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don’t know why things happen as they do, but we don’t give up and quit”. How comforting to hear one of the greatest men of faith say, “I don’t know why things happen as they do, but I still choose to not give up.”
It’s good to know that we can trust God, that we can put our faith in Him. He has promised that one day He will set everything right. Until then, there are two ways we can live our life. We can live feeling like God owes us an explanation or we can live life realising God has given us great gifts. Appreciating His present blessings and having faith that God is bigger and greater than my plans and that His plans for us are always the best.
