“It was faith that made Abraham able to become a father, even though he was too old and Sarah herself could not have children. He trusted God to keep his promise.” (Hebrews 11:11 GNT) He trusted God to be faithful.
How many people have you heard say, “Well, it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you’re sincere”? What they really mean is, “it’s not the object of your faith that matters, but just having faith”.
Think about it for a second. That’s faith in faith. That’s a little bit like saying “it doesn’t matter whether the windscreen is clear or not, let’s just look at the windscreen. The windscreen is not meant to be looked at. It’s meant to be looked through. What matters if you want to have a safe trip, is what you see through the windscreen, not the windscreen.
In the same way, Abraham did not get strong by looking at his faith and by considering his faith and saying, “The important thing is just to believe.” No. He looked through faith to the God who was faithful. How are you looking at God this week?
