Dental hygiene and stress – what do they have in common? Brushing your teeth can be the most stressful activity of your day. Think about it – it’s often the time when your mind wanders the most.
At first, the thoughts can seem simple and harmless. They start as a checklist for your day but not in an orderly and structured way. The thoughts don’t simply march in one at a time. They barrel into each other. They swing in different directions and before you know it, your mundane morning moment is leading your mind into meltdown.
In John’s gospel in the Bible, we hear Jesus say “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart”. Peace is a gift available to us. Our job is to accept that gift and to be intentional in seeking and receiving it. So next time you’re brushing your teeth and your mind begins to wander…stop. Bring your focus back. Breathe, and be thankful for the gift of peace
