When I first had contact with Northside Community Church 19 years ago, I was going through a teenage “wild” phase, running away from school and causing my parents all kinds of grief.
Today, I have the privilege to begin serving that church as your Senior Pastor.
Sure, life has had its fair share of twists and turns in-between. Ask my family and friends back then and they’ll all tell you, none of us would have expected me to be here today writing like this.
Here’s the principle. My story is like so many others here. By God’s power, we have seen countless lives changed for the better, after they have come into contact with this wonderful church.
What hits me is there are people still here today, who would have invested their time and money into this place, so a wild teenager could eventually catch a glimpse of who Jesus is and what the whole Christianity thing is really about.
To all of Northside I want to thank you for the privilege it is to serve you in this capacity. Although I know I don’t do this alone. It’s alongside the wisdom of our eldership, the dedication of our incredible ministry team and the passion of our congregation.
People sometimes ask, how will you fill Graham Agnew’s shoes? I realised I don’t need to, I’m building on his foundation. Just as he built on the one before. The Apostle Paul said that right?
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. “ (1 Cor 3:10-11)
Kristyn and I have been so overwhelmed by your love and support in this new season and look forward to “building with care” with you.
We all do so in the hope, that even today, there also might be someone sitting amongst us in a “wild” season of life who, through their contact with Northside, will have their future radically changed by the power of God
