The Realities of Character

I’m sure most of us at one point in time have experienced one of those weeks when things just don’t seem to be going as planned – almost as if everything is stacked up against us.

It’s in these sorts of moments that I reflect on what we’ve learnt throughout the past six weeks about our character and how it comes to light. I loved Sam’s definition of character being essentially who we are (and how we behave) when no one is watching.

When these moments pop up in my life, I’m learning there is an opportunity to keep reminding myself of John 15:5: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you
will bear much fruit…”

We know from the book of Galatians that the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Even during the chaotic moments of life there is a way to still bear fruit. As human as we all are and therefore as flawed as we can be at times, there is still the opportunity for God to be glorified amongst our toughest
moments.

This has been a great series that has challenged us and put us on a trajectory as a church. I’m looking forward to seeing how we continue to grow in character this year and what it looks like for us to “remain in the vine… and bear much fruit”.
