Given Jesus was God’s Son, when he came to earth surely he deserved a throne in a palace with servants waiting on him all day long? But for Jesus, he wasn’t about the fame or assuming the luxury, He came to this earth for a completely different reason. In Mark 10:45 Jesus says: “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
At Northside Kids this month our theme has been Service: Lending a hand to help someone else. Sometimes that is all we need, our hands, or as the little ones have been learning, our helping hands. Jesus reminds us that even a boy’s small offering of five loaves of bread and two fish was more than enough to feed 5000 people! Regardless of our age we all have an important role to play in this world, to give, to serve and to help others.
Jesus is our ultimate example of service and reminds us that serving is an opportunity to reflect God’s character to the world around us. That’s why our memory verse this month is Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
God is up to something significant here at Northside and in this world and the incredible thing is that He wants us to be a part of it. We’re praying that no matter our age all of us will be inspired to use what is in our hands to join in the work God is already doing to make a difference in the world around us.
