In the Bible we read an epic love story that begins in a garden with perfect relationship between God and humanity, His creation. When Adam and Eve sinned, destroying that relationship, God didn’t give up on them. Instead, because of his love, He sent His only Son to make a way to bring is back to relationship with him. When God sent Jesus to earth, He perfectly modelled what it looks like to love others; He prioritised love above all else. When the religious leaders asked Jesus what the greatest ancient commandment was, He said it was to love God and love your neighbour as yourself.
Because we are God’s creation, shaped to be like him, we too have the capacity to love. Every time we make the choice to treat others the way we want to be treated, we’re providing a glimpse into the perfect love God has for each of us.
During February at Northside Kids we’re going to discover more about LOVE which we’re defining as: choosing to treat others the way you want to be treated. Our main verse for the month is 1 John 4:10: “Here is what love is. It is not that we loved God. It is that he loved us and sent his Son to give his life to pay for our sins.” (NIrV)
As leaders of our church’s kids, our desire is that this verse provides an answer to why true love is so important. Love isn’t just something we feel or do, love doesn’t even originate from us. We love quite simply because God loves us.
Term 1 2017 for Northside Kids begins next Sunday, 5th February. I can’t wait to see what adventures this year takes us on!
