Laying the Foundation//

Recently a friend and I passed a skyscraper that is being built in North Sydney. I had noticed that it had taken months to dig the hole and prepare the foundation and in contrast the building went up in what seemed like a few days. My friend who is an engineer by trade explained to me that laying and preparing the foundation to build takes up around 66% of the overall project time and that the higher the building the deeper the foundation is required to be.

Foundations are not fun to prepare. They take time, effort, patience and receive no real praise or accolade. No one sees the foundation, they only see the building and as a result we put little emphases on them.

As myself and the Men’s Ministry team begin to build, we are asking ourselves a lot of tough questions. What sort of foundation are we laying? Is it in line with God’s Word? Will it be sustainable?

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, “According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ”. From this we can see that Jesus is the true foundation and we are simply building on His completed work.

As the Bible refers to us as spiritual stones and Christ as the Cornerstone, our hope is to connect the men of Northside in order to build God’s house for our joy and His glory.

On this note, I’d like to challenge the men of Northside with this question: What could the role you play in this ministry look like? Its success is dependent on your input and participation.
