Good Good Father//

With only a week to go until Father’s Day I find myself having different feelings towards this occasion than usual. I suspect it has something to do with my wife and I expecting a baby in a few months time, which has me thinking about fatherhood so much more than ever.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about this new season we are about to enter as a family and it is a little bittersweet not having my father here to experience such an important moment in my life. It has, however, made me think more than ever about our Heavenly Father and His love for us.

It’s extraordinary to think how strong a father’s love for a child can be and what that means when we see how much more our Heavenly Father adores us, even though sometimes we fail to believe it to be true. We’re singing a song today that is rather simple, yet so powerful in its description of God’s love for us and identity in Christ.

As a bloke – and I mention blokes due to the theme of fatherhood – it can sometimes be difficult to express vulnerability in worship towards our loving God. The thought of complete vulnerability and abandonment before God seeming strange or even weak, when in fact it is exactly what we were created for – to love and glorify our creator, our Heavenly Father.

As we approach Father’s Day, can I encourage you to think of the depth of love God has for us – more than any earthly love we could experience. Dwell on that thought and may our worship, prayers and thoughts towards Him be in response to that unending love.
