This week I had the privilege of sharing with some of the older generations of our church family and it reminded me again of the joy it is to journey through life with those who have been before me. I had conversations with
women who have known me a little while now and are so interested in what is happening in my life. I will never lose sight of the significance this is to share with them and to learn together.
Throughout my life I have had mentors, leaders and friends many steps ahead of me on the journey to encourage me, cheer me on, from whom I’ve been able to soak up wisdom and insight through the richness of their stories and experience.
I was reminded of Psalm 78:4-7:
“ …tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done….
6 that the next generation might know them,
the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
7 so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God.”
Your story is evidence of God at work throughout the course of history. It has potential to declare the incredible truths of God to the next generation so they too may know Him and make Him known.
What opportunities might you have in our church family to connect with someone older or younger than you and pass on your piece of God’s history to another generation?
