Following the Formation Gathering at Northside in October, a group of Northsiders are keen to start a ‘Northside Community Group Book Club’.
Our main idea is to continue to grow in faith, to share our faith journey and to be formed in the character of Christ in order to benefit others – which was one of the definitions of spiritual formation at the conference.
The purpose of this doing this through a book club is that we aim to read a book a month and then meet once a month to respectfully discuss ‘The Book of the Month’.
Beginning with ‘Spirit of the Disciplines’ by Dallas Willard, followed by books from writers such as Henri Nouwen, James Bryan-Smith, Eugen Petersen, Johannes Hartl, Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating, we hope the lively discussion following each book will shine a light on different aspects of our faith journey.
By sharing our thoughts & hearing the responses others offer, we hope to gain a wider understanding of what being in community means.
Everyone is welcome. Upon registration each participant will be given two free booklets, ‘The Life & Prayer of Jesus’ and ‘Floodgate’ to discuss at our first gathering. Thereafter each participant will need to purchase or borrow their own books (there are no other costs).
