Some of the Northside family attended the Hillsong Conference this week, receiving inspirational teaching, with this year focusing on hearing the voice of God. Over 20,000 people gathered together to worship Jesus Christ – one of the most impactful experiences to be surrounded by all those voices worshipping our Almighty God.
At Northside we might not be worshipping in a stadium with tens of thousands of others, however we strive to have the same level of intimacy with God, authenticity in our approach to Him and ideally find ourselves changing from the inside out.
Worship is a key part of Christian living – adoring God and loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Our love can be expressed in many ways. One the church has historically included in gatherings is the use of song. Worshipping through song is powerful as it combines truth and emotion. Essentially as we sing of the goodness and faithfulness of God (truth) it often can elicit a response (emotion), for instance joy and feelings of freedom – just to name a couple. The response can also be action, for instance reflecting on the forgiveness we’ve received through Christ can lead to repentance.
My desire when we gather to worship is for us all to participate and to engage with our Creator. Corporate worship is not a spectacle but an opportunity to collectively celebrate, rejoice and surrender ourselves to our loving God.
Next week at our night service we have the privilege of being led in worship by some Worship Pastors & leaders from one of our churches in Melbourne. Greg Attwells, Matt Destry and their team will be running a workshop with our Creative Arts Team in the afternoon and then joining us for the evening service. Please join us for this special evening as we continue to seek to worship in “spirit and in truth”.
